Early 20th century. All are black and white and for Springfield College in Massachusetts, which is a very famous and historical school that was coached at one time by the famous Amos Alonzo Stagg (1890 - 1891). James Naismith, the man credited for inventing the American game of basketball, was a teacher at this school and it was also known as The International Young Men’s Christian Association Training School at one time. Springfield College was an early football power and their 1913 schedule shows that they beat Brown University and West Point Military Academy. In 1914 they beat Amherst College and finished with a record of 6-3. Springfield College also played against Jim Thorpe and the Carlisle Indians in 1912 using their famous McCurdy spread formation and the V-shift. They were defeated by Carlisle, 30-24. Lot includes football reception books from 1913 and 1914 along with over 25 black and white postcards of players from those two teams. Also includes shots of mascots, pennants, and early stadium photos. None of the postcards have been written on but one reception booklet has a tape repair to one corner. Some postcards are slightly faded (due to age) but lot has very little overall wear.
