Type 1. This example has no Marbles stamp at all but from all appearances it is a Marbles production dating to the M.S.A. Co. time period. The axe head is fastened to the handle by a single screw making it a type 1. The handle has three lock screws on each side and its scales are genuine stag which appear to be original to the axe. Handles are "U" bolstered. The only mark at all on this axe is the patent date, "May 24 1898" found at the top handle.
