Type 1. Axe head held on to handle by a single screw bearing the Patent date "May 24, 1898". Handles are embossed hard rubber bearing a dog chasing a rabbit scene on one side and the other side bearing "Marbles Safety Pocket Axe" and "MFD. by W.L. Marbles Gladstone Mich.". There are three lock screws on each side of handle (one is missing). Safety guard is broken and a light rust covers most of axe.
