Type 2. Safety guard is marked "Marble Arms & Mfg. Co. Gladstone Mich. U.S.A. Patd. 1898". Axe head is unmarked and covered with a light rust. The handles are a wonderful embossed hard rubber bearing a dog chasing a rabbit scene on one side and the other side bearing "Marbles Safety Pocket Axe" and "MFD. by W.L. Marble Gladstone, Mich.". Handles are bolstered and bear three screws on each side. Perhaps 80-90% original plating remains on handle and guard. This example includes a correct belt sheath with signed button.
