Circa 1850. Made by one of the most sought after American Bowie makers, Rose of New York. The piece is stamped with his classic markings on the blade, in two lines, "Rose" and "New York", in a concave arch design. Handle and mounts are classis Rose signature style. This is a deluxe model with ebony grips, checkered, surmounted by the rose, clam shell pommel in German silver, band at the base of the grips. Steel cross guard with ball terminals, again classic Rose style guard. Beautiful blade with reinforced medial ridge on both sides. Blade is in fine condition with some light pitting in areas. Original leather scabbard with two old line tooled borders. Scabbard is in overall fine condition.
