Circa 1840 to 1865. Very large and very ornate French folding Bowie. Fancy German silver cross guard and pommel. Two cross guards are in the shape of a fleur de lis with an eagle sitting above them and a crown on its head. At the base of the cross guard mount is a man’s face. The pommel with the fleur de lis curves again, turning into a scallop shell with fish scales in the center. Mother of pearl grips with deeply incised floral carvings enhanced with gold wash. Highly polished blade with medial ridge running down each side is in beautiful condition. Desirable lock back design for holding the blade in place.
