Germany, ca. 1912. One of the largest dollhouses produced by the Moritz Gottschalk company of Marienstein, Germany, this majestic country villa is numbered 5193 on the bottom and featured prominently in the Cieslik’s Gottschalk catalogue reprint for the 1912 production line. The elaborate exterior features three prominent covered porches with original die-cut cardboard railings, original painted doors and windows (one window replaced) and unusual baroque decorative plaques with gilt accent paint. Front steps replaced, window boxes restored from original fragments and the foundation has been restored and strengthened. The unusually spacious interior features eight rooms and includes a winding staircase with a signature under-stairs water closet. The ground floor dining room features a spacious alcove, and the parlor immediately above has a partially enclosed alcove with fretwork detailing. The six original working casement windows in the rear walls are an especially nice original feature. The interior is partially restored with original coordinated wallpapers and original lace curtains in all principal rooms except the upper hallway. The hinged façade retains original papers and curtains as well. Dining room floor paper replaced and vintage papers added in the attic. Some wallpaper stains overpainted. This house has been featured in Miniature Collector and Antique Doll Collector magazines and the Hunterdon Co. (NJ) Observer.
