Circa 1858-1865, this is a solid example of the standard U.S. regulation headgear for enlisted men in the field during the Civil War. This style was also affectionately called a "bummer's" cap. Made of dark indigo blue wool cloth body with tarred bill, retains original 5/8" leather chinstrap with small brass buckle and small federal eagle buttons. CONDITION: Polished cotton lining is intact with 75% of russet brown leather sweatband remaining. Stitching is tight and there are only three small moth nips that we can see. Nice unaltered example. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Wagner cavalry museum collection.

Condition: (Very Good).
