Measures about 13 - 1/2" across the bow, including the wooden knob. Architectural 3-stage spout section. The main portion has a scalloped upper edge. The engraved decorations on the horn include three large battleships, one with 26 guns. The smallest has four fish below; two appear upright with open mouths biting the ship, and two are facing down with open mouths. The largest ship, in the center, has extensive and detailed rigging and 3 Union Jack flags. There is also an engraved tree (Liberty Tree?). There are pine trees around the base and a large shaded upside-down heart. The cartouche has the inscribed letters "GIHN AMEH" and a darker "TC" done with a different hand. Turned wooden plug of cherry, with a large threaded wooden knob of the artillery type. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing honey patina with some scattered marks. Plug has a couple of hairline age cracks and minor chips. An interesting and cryptic horn worthy of further research and interpretation. From the Louie Parker Collection.
PLEASING NAUTICALLY ENGRAVED ARCHITECTURAL REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA POWDER HORN.
