DSP. A remarkable and significantly rare piece of c. 1940's service station advertising from Wasatch gasoline, a product of Wasatch Oil Company, Salt Lake City, Utah. This piece of porcelain advertising from Wasatch is one of only two known examples to remain in this particular size and the first time one has publicly come to market. Sign features outstanding red, white & blue colors with an incredibly detailed Native American Chief in full bonnet throughout each side with crisp detail and heavy shelving between each color. CONDITION: Side one is in outstanding displaying condition showing excellent colors throughout the field with a beautiful graphic and bold script. Side one shows one area of moderate chipping at the top center of the bonnet graphic as well as two smaller sized disguised chips in the inner feathers of the bonnet. Side one shows one light chip at the chin of the Native American and the outer field shows some minor areas of cloudiness in the white porcelain, most of which is not noticeable when not in direct light. The sign retains all six of its original grommets and shows only faint wear at the mounting holes as well as along the outer edge of side one, Grade 8.75+. Side two also shows excellent colors throughout the red & blue with a brilliant condition graphic as well as bold Wasatch script. Side two shows one area of chipping at the top of the bonnet graphic as well as one minor nick near the center of the graphic. Side two shows one scratch at the left field which shows some minimal discoloration and the white porcelain of the outer field shows some areas of cloudiness in the porcelain which is not noticeable unless placed in direct light. Side two shows some minimal chipping at the left and right upper mounting holes with the outer edge showing just a minimal amount of light wear, Grade 8.75. An outstanding and incredible displaying piece of early American service station signage as well as a testament to unique and significantly rare & important graphic porcelain advertising.
