During World War II the OSS determined that a lockpicking knife would be necessary for issue to some of its members. Discussions were held in February and March 1944 with the Ulster Knife Company who proposed either a six or eight piece lockpicking knife. A decision was made to order the six piece version and contract number OSS-591 was placed, backdated to February 25, 1944, for 1000 of them at five dollars a piece. The manufacturing took place at the Schrade Cutlery Company. This example falls into the specifications and is unmarked, featuring three hooks, two rakes, and a single pen blade. Thumb cutout on both sides. Gray patina throughout. CONDITION: Very good.
