Blade is 12 - 3/4". Overall is 17 - 1/2". Spear point, no blood groove. The ivory scales are decorated with three gold acorns on each side. Has hand guard shield. Both sides of the blade are etched with game and wild foul hunting scene. Maker stamped on hilt (E.F. Horster). Blade has a couple of minor nicks, otherwise near mint. Etching is perfect. Comes in leather and brass sheath which is beautifully toned. This was a WWII Deluxe Senior Forestry dagger, Reichswehr period. Manufactured by H.H.S. Comes with a family letter that comes from the consignors grandfather who was a Forestry officer prior to and during WWII and faught with the Third Reich in Austria during the War. An extremely rare and desirable German dress Hirschfanger. In the book entitled, "German Daggers of World War II" by Thomas Johnson, Page 906, shows this exact knife in a period catalog as item #1278. Additionally there is a picture of this knife on page 900, as well.
