Fantastic early USMC Australian made battledress tunic with 1st Marine Division "bloodied" red border patch. The patch was theater made in Australia and is embroidered on cotton material. These patches supposedly indicate that the Marine was part of the Invasion and subsequent battle of Guadalcanal. The jacket not only features this rare variation of the 1st Marine Division patch, but also boasts embroidered EGAs on the collar. The jacket is constructed of fine quality wool and was made for the 1st Marine Division after they departed Guadalcanal and were sent to Australian for rest and refit. These Australian battledress "Ike" jackets were popular among many US servicemen who were stationed in Australia. The jacket is stamped on the interior "Regular 36" above the spec tag. The Marine's name "D.S. Wright Jr." is also stamped inside the jacket in several areas. CONDITION: The jacket retains all of its original buttons. The buttons going down the torso and on the pockets are a thin metal while the sleeves and waist have plastic buttons. There are only a few scattered moth nips throughout the jacket with the largest being a pen tip sized hole on the wearer's right sleeve. This is an exceptional example of an early war USMC battledress. JD
