WWI era 48 star flag with documentation that states the flag was flying over the US capitol when war was declared on Germany in 1917. 48 star flags were in service for 47 years from 1912-1959. The flag is made of wool bunting and measures approximately 115" on the fly and 90" on the hoist. The flag is accompanied by a document that states this flag was given to Miss Louise Scott by P.J. Decker who was an executive in the United States Department of Historical Documents in Washington. After it was lowered from the US capitol, the flag was supposedly given to Decker who then gave it to Miss Scott. The document is stamped and notarized and dated March 8, 1977. This flag was owned by the noteworthy collector John K. Lattimer. CONDITION: The flag was severely wind whipped and the frayed ends were either cut off or braided in an attempt to stop the damage. The flag is tarnished and the colors have faded. There are scattered moth holes throughout the flag. Overall poor. JD
