First gun is a Colt Lightning Slide Action Rifle in .44-40 Caliber. This rifle was made in 1885, the second year of production. Features: full round barrel, full magazine, sporting sights, two piece checkered walnut fore end, walnut butt stock with rifle butt. All legends are razor sharp on top of barrel, as is pony on left side of frame. Metal is completely devoid of any original finish and now presents itself in gunmetal grey with scattered brown freckling. Has a few replaced screws that do not fit. Some light scratching on left side where forward screw was attempted to be fitted. Walnut fore end is almost completely devoid of checkering, and the left panel has a 2 inch chunk missing. Butt stock has a stress crack running from lower tang for approximately five inches. Toe has numerous small age cracks. Wrist has pin repair. Wood is shy to metal, having been refinished. Action works fine. Bore has well defined rifling but does exhibit areas of abrasion and residue from black powder. The rear sight has been replaced and has most of its original blue, which defies the balance of the gun. Gun 2 is a scarce Evans repeating sporting rifle. These unusual rifles were manufactured in Maine and featured an S lever action and held the most firepower of any repeating lever action built at the time. These were built from 1873 - 1879 and were offered in the sporting rifle, military musket, and the carbine. Came in both old and transition models. This is a new model. the only mass produced firearm attempted in the state of Maine. This rifle held 34 rounds at one time. Sporting model features the military style rear sight, blade front sight, checkered walnut fore end, and two piece walnut butt stock that encased the exposed rear loading tube. The barrel is devoid of finish. Stocks are very good to excellent. Frame and exposed tube retain approximately 70% original blue on the right side and approximately 60% on the left. Screws are basically true. There are traces of case color on the lever in hidden areas. There is a single sling swivel at the forward section of the frame. Fore end has a bit of chipping at the tip. Action works fine. Barrel has nice pronounced rifling with some corrosion and black powder residue. Gun Three is a replica 1866 SRC. While technically not a replica, we do not know what this is. It has a mix of old parts, with new stocks, and no markings anywhere on the gun to indicate manufacturer. No Italian stamps. Barrel and tube have a wipe down finish over pitting. Forward section of the brass frame is very good while the rear looks newly cast. Is it some faked up Italian or some private manufacture? Looks more old than faked. Has a rough bore. Features the newer 1866 rear sight. We don't know who made it, but it would look good on a wall.
