Rifled round steel barrel with bayonet lug mounted on top of barrel near muzzle. Left side of breech stamped with four British proofs and inspection marks. Rear adjustable flip-up sight. Flat lockplate with rounded percussion hammer. Lockplate marked at tail with large crown over "VR" for Victoria Rex, center marked "1863/ENFIELD" and stamped with small government ordnance mark, a crown over a broad arrow. Standard brass furniture with steel barrel bands, each with a British proof. Plain full-length walnut stock with steel ramrod. Good condition; all steel components have been cleaned bright, some scattered dark spots and marks from use, some pitting around breech and on bolster, lockplate and hammer. Brass unpolished. Stock has been sanded and shows scattered marks from use and some chipping along ramrod channel. These were known to have been imported during the Civil War, mainly used by Confederate troops. A very nice, original example of a Civil War rifle, which could have seen confederate use.
