Classic configuration of the Webley-Green target model with adjustable bead front sight, drift adjustable V notch rear sight. Cathedral fluted cylinder. Checkered walnut grips. Barrel rib marked for "J. F. SMYTHE BLACKWELL GATE, DARLINGTON". Appropriate marks throughout. Walnut dealer case with reproduction Webley trade label in lid and accessories comprising oil bottle, screwdriver, cleaning rod, and nickel barrel cover with hole for barrel but covering sights. CONDITION: Very good with much of the high polish blue remaining among numerous bumps, dings, and nicks. Front sight screw missing on left side. Barrel address heavily marred. Finish appears to be a period correct refinish. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is very good with distinct rifling and frosting throughout. Box is very good with nicks, bumps, and pressure marks with one crack towards top, accessories are very good. J.F. Smythe is best remembered for blowing up the town center of Darlington when his cartridge loading factory touched off, causing an explosion so serious that the local newspaper ran an emergency edition to explain why many residents had felt an earthquake. After this event, Mr. Smythe was no longer welcome in Blackwell Gate and moved.
