(A) CONFEDERATE GRISWOLD PERCUSSION SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER.

Confederate produced Griswold & Gunnison 2nd model belt revolver. Brass frame with brass trigger guard and back strap. Produced outside of Macon, Georgia at Gunnisonville armory from 1862 until November 1864 when it was destroyed by fire at the hand of Union troops. This 2nd Model with the distinctive octagon shaped barrel breech is numbered 2116 on, barrel, frame, and cylinder with "16" being found on loading lever, wedge, side of trigger guard internally and side of back strap internally. Additionally marked with a "DD" marking on underside of barrel at loading lever latch area, rear of frame and on both trigger guard and grip strap internally as well as the left side of the hammer. A series of Roman numerals "VIIII" are found scribed on underside of frame and side of trigger guard. The rear of the cylinder has a very faint "D". The one piece walnut grips are pencil marked "16" in the rear strap mortise. Griswold produced an estimated 100 revolver per month and at times used brass donated by local churches by rendering their bells. CONDITION: Good with a mottled grey finish on all iron. Brass has been polished and cleaned long ago. The stocks are very good, full sized and without material loss. A nipple is absent from the cylinder. The bore is dark with visible rifling. The cylinder fails to rotate when hammer pulled to the rear and needs a pawl spring. A honest Confederate Griswold revolver from our Civil War.
