Manufactured 1855. All matching numbers with the exception of wedge not numbered. Frame is not U.S. marked. Barrel has New York address. This revolver has seen a lot of use; muzzle is rounded, barrel has areas of light pitting, cylinder scene is not visible, frame has had some wiped on finish, and loading lever is grey. Most of the screw heads show various degrees of distortion. The brass trigger guard has been replaced with a Second Model square back style, but is numbered to the gun and the font appears to be identical to the rest of the gun, so it may have been a factory leftover square back used on a Second Model. Trigger guard is inspector stamped "Z" on left rear and "A" on left front trigger bow, which would also indicate a Martially inspected gun. There are two plugged holes on the backstrap that would have been for mounting a shoulder stock, and the butt screw is extended which further indicated that this trigger guard and backstrap were leftover parts used to assemble this revolver. It is our opinion that this is all original as applied by factory, as it was a common practice to use leftover parts.
