(A) EARLY ENGRAVED BREVETE PATERSON NO. 5 PERCUSSION REVOLVER

This is a high quality Brevete, an unlicensed period copy, generally done during the same era as were the licensed original, constructed in European countries to avoid paying royalties. This example is a close copy of a No. 5 Texas but made with a 4 - 1/4" octagon barrel with a rear silver wedding band and cylinder with oval stops and double silver wedding bands. One piece walnut grips. The frame, barrel, back strap, and hammer are period engraved in a simple scroll. The are no visible external proofs, numbers, or makers legend. CONDITION: Very good. This is a crisp gun that retains a smooth homogeneous soft grey patina. Grips are fine. Mechanically fine, although trigger tends to hang, bore with good, defined rifling and frost throughout. A great way to obtain a period Patterson without paying a Colt price.
