Fine condition Ainsworth Colt made for US Army in 1874. It bears all matching serial numbers. The Ainsworth inspector mark is found on trigger guard and backstrap. The frame has the two line patent dates with "U"S stamp. All of the characteristics of this fine revolver are correct for a Colt made in 1874 including slant barrel address, hammer, ejector and screws. CONDITION: All legends are crisp and the overall finish is a fine, smooth, homogeneous patina with some wear and rounding of sharp edges at muzzle from holster wear. The one piece walnut grips have been heavily revarnished and there is no visible cartouche. The bore is fine and the action is crisp. This is a very sharp example of an early second year US Colt that is just outside the usual Custer range and far above usual found condition. DB
