Brass blunderbuss barrel with turnings at muzzle inscribed "DERBY" at top. English view and proof marks on left side at breech. The flat lockplate is inscribed "PARIS" in the center and features a swan neck cock and a roller frizzen. The steel furniture includes an engraved buttplate, small oval escutcheon around the single lock retaining screw, a French style trigger guard, terminating in an acorn finial, and ramrod ferrules. Plain walnut stock with checkered wrist. CONDITION: Barrel retains a mellowing mustard patina and shows some scattered marks and minor denting. Furniture has been cleaned bright and shows some minor pitting and wear. Lock is excellent in its original flintlock configuration, functions well. Stock shows scattered denting and marks from use. There is one crack stemming from the barrel tang to the rear lock tang. Ramrod is a replacement and not the proper size. A very large and attractive blunderbuss dating circa. 1820. DMG
