Approximately 12,500 were manufactured by Remington in Ilion, NY between 1862 through 1865. The case color lock on this riffle is stamped 1863 with US eagle and maker legend. Standard in all respects with the walnut stock, brass patch box, butt plate, trigger guard, two bands and a forearm tip. The blued barrel features a two leaf folding rear sight, a right side bayonet lug, metal rod and two swivels. Barrel is stamped US 1863 with eagle head and VP proof along with Steel and HSL for Homer Lathe. CONDITION: Excellent. Lock shows flashes of color turning dark. Legends are sharp. Barrel retains the majority of its dulling blue, Screws still retain fire blue. Stock is excellent with two bold inspector cartouche stamps on left side. H.D.J and BH for Henry D. Jennings and Benjamin Hannis. Mechanically sound. Bore is bold and bright with light residue.
