Round barrel with no visible legends, fit with a 4-legged silver "spider" sight. Patent breech with octagonal section, top flat with deeply impressed "JOSEPH / MANTON / PATENT" poincon, with gold line decoration at rear. Horn tipped trumpet ramrod with worm at rear retained by 2 ferrules soldered to a half-rib feeds into a reinforced mouth. Halfstock with horn forearm cap. Touch hole is bushed with what appears to be platinum. Lock with "JOSEPH MANTON / LONDON" in center, integral fence at rear, waterproof pan, roller bearing frizzen, and bridled pan cover. Stepped at rear with a sunburst at step. Stock is retained by 2 keys with silver escutcheons, checkered about the wrist in a point pattern, and inset with a silver oval at wrist. Iron buttplate with light engraving. CONDITION: Barrel retains approximately half of the faux Damascus twist pattern, mixed with dove grey and some spots of darkness and peppering. Lock is good, somewhat brighter than balance, and a possible replacement, given pitting about touchhole. Stock is very good with some handling marks and dings from age and use, and 1 expertly repaired break behind the lock, stabilized by 2 pins, and 1 unrepaired break along toe line. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with a minimum of oxidation.
