German made external hammer Cape style side by side combination gun made by Gebruder Krauss Coblenz, Germany before 1893, indicated by lack of visible proofmarks. Blued 26" steel .45-70 caliber rifled barrel next to a 16 gauge shotgun barrel with full smooth sight plain rib, blade/bead front sight, rear fixed notch sight, extractors, gold ringed breeches, and rib marked "GEBR. KRAUSS COBLENZ" in gold. Rounded heavy chisel engraved back action external hammer locks with floral and game scene engraving. Initials engraved on tang, double triggers (front is set trigger), unique pierced underlever opener, side flash shields, and carved and pierced horn triggerguard. Figured walnut stock with cheekpiece, steel buttplate, and matching pinned checkered splinter forearm. CONDITION: 95% blue with bright action finish. 90% hand rubbed finish remaining with fine checkering and some small handling marks and dings. Possibly professionally refinished. Excellent bore and mechanics.
