Produced by Starr Arms in New York City from 1863 through 1865. Approximately 25000 were purchased by the US Government for the Civil War and this is one such example. Matching serial numbers, high polish blue finish, dovetailed front sight, one piece walnut grips, case colored loading lever and hammer, and fire blue screws. This example features numerous sub inspector stamps. CONDITION: Excellent. Retains at least 90% of its bright blue with trigger guard and straps drifted to patina. There is a hint of muzzle wear and some nominal handling marks. Case colors are still visible and the screws are true, retaining most of their nitre blue. Grips are excellent but there is no visible cartouche and four small pin head holes on left panel as if a plaque was removed. Mechanically sound with a bright bore.
