This unusual and massive 24 shot revolving Keel gun is believed to have been mounted on the bow of a small boat or skiff. It is fired using a lanyard that rotates the large cylinder and fires the cartridge and can be operated either single action or double action if so desired. This example is made of iron and is chambered for .450 Boxer and it accepts .45 Schofield as well. The exterior appears to never have been finished but left in its black iron finish. A small bronze loading gate on the right rear recoil shield provided for loading and removal of spent cartridges. The barrel has a small French proof that is visible as the number 13 is found on the front yoke of the frame. The 8" round barrel is smooth bore as accuracy really was not the purpose. A number of these rare devices have been displayed from collections in the past but this example is fully functional and operates. CONDITION: Good as discovered with a pleasant chocolate patina overall. A small amount of corrosion is evident from period storage. The action operates and cylinder rotates properly. Truly a unique example of firearm curiosa. TDW
