1798 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Contract flint lock musket made by John Miles of Northern Liberties, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is one of 2000 contracted for in 1798 fashioned after the French 1763 Charleville Musket. In the white finished steel smoothbore barrel with sight block that doubles as fastener for socket style bayonet. Barrel marked at breech with "CP" and "(Eagle) / P" proof. Flint lock marked "MILES / CP" vertically. Walnut full military 2 band with double nosecap stock marked with "CP" behind sideplate and "RB" behind tang. Stock has all iron hardware. Comes with button head iron ramrod. CONDITION: Metal parts have been buffed to an as new condition. Wood has dark original looking finish with light usage marks and dings and light coat of old oil. Dark bore with strong mechanics. DLM
