Kentucky flintlock rifle made by Melchoir Fordney of Lancaster, Pennsylvania who worked from 1813 until his famous death in 1846 by the hand of John Haggerty with an axe. Gun has a 49" octagonal .58 caliber barrel with straight cut rifling, rifle sights, and signed in script "M. Fordney". Unmarked flint lock with single trigger control and held by Fordney style engraved brass backplate. Full curly maple stock with brass hardware including an engraved 4 piece patchbox, trigger guard and toe plate along with a scalloped design tail pipe. Comes with hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Metal has silvery patina with spots of surface corrosion. Lock is a reconversion with some wood added on right side of the tang. Wood has been cleaned with 19" of wood replaced on forestock. Replaced brass nosecap and last ramrod ferrule. Dark deeply rifled barrel with functioning mechanics. DLM
