One of an estimated 1,500 Model 1885 Remington-Lee US Navy contract rifles chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge. 32" round barrel with integral front sight and slide adjustable rear sight. Receiver bridge is factory marked and inspected "U.S.N. (anchor) No. 1035 W.W.K." and the right top of receiver is "Remington Arms Company Ilion N.Y. U.S.A. Sole Manufacturers and Agents". One piece American walnut stock with two barrel retaining band fitted with sling and stacking swivels. Steel musket pattern buttplate without trap provision. A star inspection is found on bolt guide rail and left rear of receiver. CONDITION: Fair with bright shiny bore with sharp rifling. All metal has dulled to a pleasant brown patina. The action operates smoothly and properly under manual operation. The one piece stock has been fractured at the wrist with cracks emitting toward butt early full length. Left side of stock is cracked and has an attempted repair emitting from the rear tang forward to the front of the receiver and has a 1" area of material loss. Wiping rod is a contemporary reproduction but fits well.
