Manufactured in 1863. This standard rifle dates to the mid Civil War period. This mid war piece has a mix of early and later style parts as they transitioned mid production. Standard features include the early slight bevel brass frame, early rounded heel butt plate, octagon barrel, late style square back German silver front sight, Type C (third type) 900 yard ladder rear sight, sling swivels, one on right side of stock while other oval swivel is mounted to barrel. Other features include the Henry lever latch, early small trigger pin, rear sight slot cuts on barrel and frame, milled flats receiver slot, large variation magazine cartridge follower, early style walnut stock comb and no serial numbers on screws, There are matching serial numbers stamped inside butt plate, on the lower inside tang, barrel breech and inside the stock channel. The inside lower tang also has the H stamp. Barrel flat has the early style small Henry patent legend stamp at top of barrel. CONDITION: Very good. The stock fits perfectly with no cracks or gaps but has some scattered dings, some darkening and later added finish. Brass is beautifully toned. The barrel is a homogenous gun metal and patina with some freckling. The barrel address is sharp. The bore shows well defined rifling and is almost shiny with just minor abrasions, about as nice as you will see on a Henry. Action works fine. A really sharp honest mid war Henry rifle.
