Extremely rare and unusual revolving 3rd Model turret rifle made by P.W. Porter of Memphis, Tennessee and later New York City, New York. 1 of 500 Third Models made circa the 1850s. Rifle has 28 - 1/4" browned octagonal barrel with offset notch sights and marked "ADDRESS / P.W.PORTER / NEW YORK" and "P.W. PORTER'S / PATENT 1851". Browned metal receiver with 9-shot vertical rotating turret with side hammer, plain trigger, and loop lever. Plain walnut stock with iron crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Metal has turned a plum brown patina with light surface frosting. 80% original varnish with usage dings and scratches; slight wood loss at toe. Dark bore with visible rifling and functioning mechanics. A rare rifle.
