This 1st Model Smith-Jennings rifle was designed by Horace Smith of Smith & Wesson fame circa 1851. Serial number 169. Roughly 500 known to exist. An early repeating rifle which featured a .54 caliber rocket ball cartridge ignited by a pill primer. Blued round barrel with tubular magazine, fixed open sights and swivel magazine cover. Casehardened engraved action marked with "Robbins and Lawrence Maker's Windsor, VT" and "CP Dixon Agent New York Agent Patent 1849". Single ring trigger without trigger guard. Walnut plain stock with steel crescent buttplate and German silver oval inlay on left side. CONDITION: Barrel blue has turned an even plum-brown color with some light pitting.
