Produced from 1871-1888, less than 15,000 of these pistols were manufactured. The Joseph Rider invention is one of the most unusual of the 19th century pocket pistols and one of the first cartridge pistols to use a tubular magazine. Barrel stamped "E. Remington and Sons, Ilion, N.Y. / Riders Patent August 16th, 1871". Fire blue on back of hammer and fitted with two piece ivory grips. CONDITION: One would be hard pressed to find a finer example. It retains 99% of its original factory nickel finish. Bore is near mint. It is possible that this pistol has never been fired. Backstrap screw is slightly marred. Removal of the grip panel reveals the hammer block, which the screw holds in place, is all original. It might have fallen out at one time when the grip panel was removed and was simply tightened with the wrong screwdriver. It would be an easy job to true the slot. Gun is in fine working order. One of the better examples you will come across.
