Early unique Snaphaunce of unknown origin and maker, assumed to be made circa 1700. Tapered 8 - 5/8" smoothbore .41 caliber barrel with no markings or sights. 6 shot cylinder with charge hole sliding covers, no markings, and 5 concentric lines. Snaphaunce style frizzen and what appears to be a later period replacement flint cock. Plain walnut stock with iron trigger guard, tailed single trigger, and iron grip cap with stud for missing lanyard ring. Comes with a picture of a similar gun which resides in Winchester Museum. CONDITION: Metal has faded to a silvery patina with wood having an old oil-soaked appearance. Dark bore with functioning mechanics. Gun appears old with some parts and screws and springs that seem to be newer than others but still of an older age; consignor states that this gun has been in his family for almost 75 years.
