(A) SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1867 TRAPDOOR CADET STYLE RIFLE.

Just 424 2-band cadet rifles were manufactured circa 1867-68 by Springfield Armory, many shipping to West Point. The bright finished 29 - 3/4" barrel is eagle proofed at the extreme breech and marked with a "61" rack number at the rear sight. Although several sources including Flayderman's list the barrel lengths of these cadet rifles as 33", examples are known with 29 - 3/4" barrels. Blade front sight and blued 2-leaf 1866 rifle rear sight graduated to 700 yards. Blackened "1866" and eagle proofed Allin conversion style breech block with arched lightening cuts. Correct "1867" dated thin lock plate. Walnut stock with a very faint oval inspection cartouche and 9" comb. Mounts include 2 barrel bands, thinned trigger guard, and unmarked 1 - 1/2" wide butt plate. CONDITION: Very good as assembled later with some real parts. Barrel is bright as cleaned with some oxidation near the breech block. Bands are bright with some cleaned spotting. Lock has evidence of cleaned oxidation spotting. Stock has been cleaned and reoiled with scattered impressions. Well defined bore with some black powder abrasion. Fine mechanics.
