This Colt letters as having been shipped on April 21st, 1880, in a shipment of 150 guns to the United States government. It is a standard cavalry model in all respects, with blue finish and one piece walnut grips. This revolver has full or partial matching numbers on the following: frame, trigger guard, backstrap, barrel, and cylinder. Other features include proper one line Colt barrel address, left side of frame has three line patent dates and is stamped "US". You can find the inspector marks "D.F.C." for David Clark stamped on the bottom of the barrel, frame, and cylinder. Left side of the grip is dated 1880 and has the script cartouche "D.A.L." for David A. Lyle. Right side grip has the cartouche "D.F.C" as well. Lyle was appointed to the Springfield Armory in 1876. Aside from some original flashes of blue on trigger guard, gun is basically soft grey gun-metal patina. There is some original blue in the cylinder flutes, and along protective edges of ejector housing. Grips have been re-oiled, but are sharp. Revolver has all four Colt clicks and locks up tight. Bore is near mint. Screw heads are sharp and centric. A far above average Indian Wars Calvary revolver.
