Springfield Model 1795 flintlock musket dated 1804. According to "Springfield Armory Shoulder Weapons 1795-1968" by Robert W. D. Ball, this musket is one of the muskets that were cut down by 12" in 1813 for cadet use at West Point and sale to South America. 32 - 1/4" round barrel in .69 caliber smoothbore with brass blade front sight on Charleville style front barrel band. Barrel is marked "US" near breech with typical "VP" proof on left side with an "X" below them above wood line. Bayonet lug is about 1 - 3/8" from muzzle and is marked with a "V". Lock is marked with (smaller font) "X" / (back to regular size font) "US" / "SPRINGFIELD" forward of cock with "1804" date behind cock. 1 piece plain walnut stock in 2 barrel band configuration complete with sling swivel about 10" from muzzle and 1804 dated military buttplate. Barrel bands are marked with an "X" on top of each. Lockplate and trigger guard are both marked with an "X". CONDITION: Very good as cleaned with moderate pitting throughout. Stock is excellent as sanded and finish added with no markings discernable but no visible cracks or signs of major distress. Action works appropriately with two distinct clicks on half and full cock and appears to be in original flint. Bore is dark with heavy abrasion. TON
