Caliber .50-70 government, Barrel length 32-1/2”. These rifles were made using the Allan patent utilizing new and left over Civil War 1863 parts. These rifles were Manufactured. from 1868-1872. Rifle has the standard Civil War US Springfield lock plate, dated 1863 and breech block dated 1870 with Eagle head and US stamp. Left side of frame and barrel are numbered “22214”. Cartouche is visible on left side of stock but not totally readable. Has the proper military style rear sight, two piece trigger guard and two barrel bands. Right side is numbered “X3319”. Butt plate is stamped “US”. Right side of stock has unit mark “65”. Rear barrel band is stamped “U”. Extremely clean example of early Trapdoor. Metal is a brown/grey patina; sharp legends with the exception of the breech block which has been cleaned and has some salt and pepper finish. There is a stock repair at wrist (top) otherwise wood is very good. Strong rifled bore with usual black powder abrasions, action is fine.
