An extremely fine and rare Custer range Colt Single Action Army revolver. Inspected by Orville W. Ainsworth. This revolver is one of the finer conditioned full dimension 7-1/2" Ainsworth inspected Custer range revolvers we have encountered. All matching parts, including barrel and cylinder. Barrel retains considerable original bluing, would rate excellent for early Ainsworth. Ejector rod housing has most original blue on inside and protected areas. Cylinder has considerable original blue on flutes, the balance of blue mixed with brown but with little to no wear or pitting. Frame has considerable case color remaining, though fading. Recoil shield case color mostly faded. Trigger guard has some original blue finish, as does the backstrap, mainly in protected area. The screws rate very good to fine. Bore is like a mirror. Action is tight and excellent. Hammer retains traces of case colors. Original walnut grips with visible cartouche "OWA" for Orville W. Ainsworth; most Ainsworth cartouches are vestigial and this one is legible. Two line patent date and crisply struck "US" on left side of frame. All markings mechanically excellent. Front sight not only full dimension but retains feathered bluing around perimeter. One of the most untouched original condition Ainsworth single actions we have encountered. Includes Letter of Authentication from noted authority John Kopec. CORRECTION: Photos of letter added. Barrel length is 7-1/2".
