Manufactured circa 1859-1862. Features include large base front sight, saber bayonet lug, brass trumpet head ramrod, 2 barrel bands, iron mountings, brass trigger guard, brass lock screw escutcheons, and folding leaf rear sight with large aperture. Mounted with a period leather sling with "William F. Brown" in period script. According to accompanying consignor note William F. Brown was a Confederate soldier from Atlanta, GA. Also marked with "JDH" in large block letters on stock flat opposite lock, and "MM" on left side of stock. CONDITION: Very good, as cleaned with freckling and handling marks throughout. Stock has handling marks throughout and has been lightly sanded and refinished, with no visible major cracks or repairs. Mechanically fine. Bore is frosted with distinct rifling.
