Contract was submitted by the German government for 150,000 pistols in early 1916 and was nearing completion when the war ended in 1918. Features the late adjustable Mk 50-500 rear sight, 24 groove walnut grips with burn in '9' on both panels an filled in with red paint, blued finish, lanyard ring. Mauser stamp on bridge. Imperial proof crown over "U". All matching numbers. Clean bore. Perfect action. Excellent grips with a few minor dings. Frame and slide retain approximately 80% original blue mixing with patina. Barrel has thinned to patina with some age freckling. Rear grip strap is patina. Nice, clean, honest example of a World War I Red 9.
