Approximately 1,200 New Service Model revolvers with the special round butt were manufactured for the marine corps at this time. Stamped on the butt is USMC along with military inventory number 518. Marine corp model is easily distinguished by its round butt, diamond checkered walnut grips, and all other features are the same as any other new service of the era. Six shot fluted cylinder, double action. Butt has lanyard ring. Side of frame has stylized Colt C with pony. No other military inspector marks visible. Address is stamped on top with caliber on left side. CONDITION: All metal is brown patina with age freckling on grip strap. Grips are worn, checkering almost smooth. Like any Marine Corp handgun from World War I, it is well used with no finish, Colt pony is light but readable. Indexes and locks up correctly. Strong, clean near mint bore. A tough gun to acquire in any condition due to the hard use they saw in World War I.
