Features tapered blue barrel with sporting front sight, dovetailed rear, Redfield side sight, two piece XX American flame cut crotch walnut stocks with checkered wrist and forearm, factory mounted sling eyes and checkered steel buttplate. The outstanding 1895 chambered for the .405 Winchester was the favorite of many big game hunters, and even the noted Theodore Roosevelt who referred to it as his "Big Medicine". Two line nickel steel markings on barrel with Winchester address on left upper receiver. Matted receiver bridge with factory proofs offset to facilitate for the matting. Rifle is accompanied with a factory records reference from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. The letter has a simple statement that the serial number was applied August 30th, 1909. Incomplete records are not uncommon on the 1895 Winchester series. This outstanding example does show use but is very fine. The two piece stocks are superb with slight use and several small abrasions and checkering wear at forearm. Blue finish overall is excellent with over 95% factory finish remaining. Finish loss is evident at leading edges of muzzle and high points of receiver as well as balance point of magazine. These Big Bore Model 1895 rifles are typically hard used and rarely found in such fine condition. This example has crisp mechanics as well as a superb bore. The rifle is also accompanied by an older lift top box of Winchester 300 grain soft point ammunition.
