Lot consists of (A) French Berthier MLE M.16 bolt action rifle with bayonet. Made post-War at the St. Etienne factory. Ball "N" marked chamber. No import mark found. Matching serials on the barrel, trigger guard (forced match), and stock. Bolt does not match. Large blade front sight and tangent rear sight. Rifle looks to be arsenal refurbished post-War. Stock has a light oil finish. Duffle style cut on the fore stock. Standard metal butt plate. Includes an original bayonet and scabbard. Bayonet is numbered, but does not match. CONDITION: Metal retains 85% of its reapplied finish with general wear. Stock has minor dings and scratches. There is a repair at the fore stock (where the duffle style cut was). Bore is shiny with crisp rifling. Mechanically fine. Bayonet is clean overall with general wear. (B) French MAS MLE 1936 bolt action rifle. Made 1946 at the St. Etienne factory. Import marked on the barrel. Matching serials on the frame, bolt, floor plate, trigger guard, fore stock, butt stock. Bayonet is not numbered. Standard blade front sight and rear adjustable to 1,200 meters. Receiver has its original black enamel finish. The barrel and bayonet were all parkerized, (most likely as arsenal refurbishment). Fore wood is all original. Buttstock is an arsenal replacement (forced matched). Metal butt plate was arsenal parkerized at some point. Includes original leather sling. CONDITION: Metal retains 70% of its finish with general wear and handling marks. Stock has minor dings, scratches and gouges. Bore is lightly frosted, with good overall rifling. Mechanically fine. Sling has light wear.
