This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/12/2026
Manufactured by the Singer Sewing Machine Manufacturing Company of Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1940, The Singer Model 1911-A1 pistol is well known as the Holy Grail of .45 Automatic collectors worldwide. In April 1940 an "educational contract" was placed with the Elizabethport factory which called for the preparation of one complete set of tools, fixtures & gauges and the manufacture of 500 complete pistols (SN S800001-S800500), plus spare parts. The purpose of this contract was primarily to provide tools which would be available for further larger production orders and to familiarize the Elizabethport personnel with pistol manufacture. With the advent of World War II, the original 500 pistol contract was redesignated for military issue. The resulting pistols are finished in a finely polished DuLite blue with and mounted with Keys pattern grips without internal reinforcement ribs or circular ovals around the mounting screw holes. Checkered safety and slide stop and long checkered milled trigger. Checkered short wide hammer and all blue finished barrel with "P" inspection marking. The all blue finished magazine with 2 retaining rivets is unmarked. Marked on left side of slide, "S.MFG.CO. ELIZEBETH, N.J.,U.S.A." Left side of frame is marked with "JKC" inspection and "P" proof above magazine release. Top of slide is has inverted "P" proof as is specific to only Singer production pistols. Right side of frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY M1911 A1 U.S. ARMY" with No S800046 below property marking. This example is a recent discovery from a notable collection and has not been previously offered for sale. CONDITION: The condition is extraordinary with the pistol retaining over 97% original dark DuLite finish with slight edge war from period holster use. Bore is extremely fine. Grips are superb. Mechanically excellent. This is one of the finest examples of the rare Singer 1911A1 to ever be offered at public sale.
