According to the factory letter, serial no. 447756 was in a shipment of one gun sent October 25th, 1937 to Bob Nichols, editor of Field & Stream Magazine. Special features are listed at "Cutaway configuration", referred to by collectors as a Fitz Special in honor of the Colt employee, John Henry Fitzgerald, who made this type of special order a household name. Fitzgerald developed his snub nosed revolver concept around the mid 1920's, when as an employee for Colt Firearms, he converted a .38 Special Colt Police Positive Special revolver, into his first Fitz Special. Major alterations on a Fitz is the distinctive cutaway trigger guard, along with the checkered and bobbed hammer. Has a round butt with Roper styled diamond checkered grips that appear to be unique for this gun. Grips are not listed in the factory letter. CONDITION: Revolver retains virtually all of the reapplied high polish blue finish. Action is slick as new and does not appear to have been fired since being expertly restored. A beautiful and scarce Fitz factory pocket revolver shipped to a noted authority in the firearms field.
