This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/12/2026
Seldom seen, little is known about these wartime commercially proofed rifles although production was very limited, it is theorized that their sales may have benefited Party or SS funding and also that some may have been issued to the Volksturm in the final days of the War. Rather than waffenamt inspections, the receiver is marked with a commercial eagle "N" proof and a diamond over "U" proof, believed to be a commercial acceptance stamp. Bolt handle is likewise marked with an eagle "N" and a diamond "U", along with the last 2 digits of the serial number. Chamber is marked with "A. 43 bcd" code and date, along with a commercial eagle "N", broken heart proof, and "944" proof date. Farther ahead, the underside of the barrel is also marked with the serial number, "FR LANGENHAN / ZELLA-MEHLIS" and "CAL. 8X57 JS" as is seen on other known examples. Barrel is fitted with a ramped front sight without hood groove and an eagle "359" inspected tangent rear sight. Metal shows arsenal brushed blue finish. Red glue laminate stock with non-matching number stamped in the channel. Handguard is likewise non-matching. Machined mounts, the forward band appearing re-blued possibly in the period. Butt plate is cupped and marked with a "brg" code. Mounts are unnumbered, excluding the bayonet lug which does not match the rifle. No visible import markings. Includes a WWII muzzle/front sight cover and well as a reproduction leather sling. CONDITION: Very Fine. Bountiful amounts of original arsenal blue are retained throughout with some areas of fading and high edge wear, especially on the bottom metal and at the muzzle. Stocks are fine with scattered impressions and scratches. Butt plate has some added wiped on finish. Crisp, mirror bore. Fine mechanics. A very nice example of a very scarce K98 variant.
