The Ruger Blackhawk has some pretty interesting history behind it. It was said that a Ruger employee found odd fired cartridge cases at a local scrapyard and brought them back to Bill Ruger. Research led them to an R&D department of Remington Arms Company. Here they learned that Smith & Wesson was developing a brand new cartridge, the .44 Magnum. With Ruger's new found knowledge they began to crank out prototypes and by November 1956 Blackhawks in .44 Magnum began to ship. This six shot, single action Ruger Blackhawk maintains the same "flat top" design as the .357 Magnum model. The flat top has an integral adjustable steel "micro" marked rear sight. This model is also popular due to the "three screw" design. The three screws were implemented to maintain a strong platform for the powerful new .44 Magnum round. This earlier model separates the same way a Colt would, in that the hammer would need to be in the half cocked position to load and unload the firearm safely. The pistol grips are genuine walnut with the Ruger insignia inserts on both sides. On the left side of the firearm the frame reads, "RUGER BLACKHAWK .44 MAGNUM CAL." with Ruger logo. The barrel reads, "STRUM, RUGER & CO. SOUTHPORT, CONN. U.S.A.". CONDITION: Revolver is in excellent condition with approximately 90%-95% original blue finish. Very minimal wear on walnut grips with light wear towards front of muzzle. Rifling for barrel is still in great condition. The Blackhawk maintains tight tolerances and positive lock up on cylinder and ejection rod. No scratches or pitting except for one small blemish on back portion of grip between the two grip panels. SS
