German made Pirschbuchse (stalking rifle) made in Sagan, Germany in 1938. Blued 24 - 1/2" faceted to round Krupp Steel barrel in 9.3x74R with matted full rib and matted quarter rib, ramped front sight, fixed 2 blade notch rear sight, and rib marked "R. BESSEL & SOHN SAGAN HERZOGL SACHS HOFLIEFERANT". Game scene engraved coin finished sidelock action with Hirsch and oak leaf pattern, Kersten lugs, side safety, double set triggers, and horn trigger guard. Opening lever has initials "EC" in gold with a gold crown above. Bessel is listed as a maker to the Royal Bulgarian Court and Prince Friedrich Sigismond of Prussia. Possibly a gun made for these royal families. Checkered walnut pistol grip stock with cheekpiece and horn buttplate. Matching checkered walnut 2-piece full length Alpine forearm with latch release and horn forend tip. CONDITION: 95% original blue with light edge wear. 95% original action finish with sharp engraving. 90% original lightly cleaned hand rubbed varnish with some small marks from use and dents. Good bore and mechanics.
